Four-Star Forward DeMarcus Henry Commits to UNC in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, on October 30, Reclassifying from the Class of 2027 to 2026
North Carolina's men's basketball program landed a major commitment on October 30: five-star forward DeMarcus Henry announced he will play for the Tar Heels, becoming head coach Michael Malone's first recruit in the class of 2027.
Henry, a 6-foot-7 forward rated the No. 3 player nationally in the 2027 class by the 247Sports composite, chose North Carolina over finalists Arkansas, Kentucky, and Louisville. The Charlotte native is the son of the late Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry, and his older brother Chris Henry Jr. is a freshman wide receiver at Ohio State who was a five-star recruit in the 2026 class. Henry said he simply loves Coach Malone; during Henry's official visit, Malone handed him the phone for a surprise call with Michael Jordan.
Malone is coaching in college for the first time since he was an assistant at Manhattan in 2001. He was an NBA head coach for 12 seasons, including 10 years with the Denver Nuggets and a championship in 2023, compiling a 510-394 record. Heading into the season, North Carolina received the most votes of any team outside the Top 25 in the preseason coaches poll and was picked to finish fifth in the 18-team ACC preseason poll.
