American Red Cross Issues Halloween Safety Guide in Las Vegas, Nevada, on October 30: Travel in Groups, Reflective Costumes, and Check the Candy

In Las Vegas, Clark County, Nevada, the American Red Cross of Southern Nevada on October 30 asked drivers and families to put road safety at the top of their Halloween weekend checklist. With October 31 falling on a Saturday and Nevada Day extending the festivities, more people than usual will be walking after dark.
Red Cross figures drawn from a study in JAMA Pediatrics show pedestrians are about 43 percent more likely to be hit and killed by a vehicle on Halloween evening than during the same hours on another evening. Southern Nevada Executive Director Bridget Posson urged walkers and drivers alike to take care, especially in residential neighborhoods and crowded areas.
Las Vegas Metro police have counted 101 crash deaths in their jurisdiction in 2026, down from 131 through October 25 of last year, though 2025 ended with 163 lives lost, 67 of them pedestrians. The Red Cross advises that children trick-or-treat with an adult, wear visible clothing, use sidewalks, and watch for cars, while drivers should slow down in neighborhoods and watch for children darting out.
