TJX Agrees to Pay $674,526 in Back Wages in New York on October 30: Workers at T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, and HomeGoods Stores in New York City and on Long Island

The New York State Department of Labor announced on October 30 that it has secured $674,526 in back wages for 7,577 employees of The TJX Companies, Inc., parent of T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, Homesense, and Sierra.
The recovery follows a proactive department investigation and a subsequent self-audit of the company's approximately 185 New York locations for spread-of-hours violations. The investigation began in April 2023, when department investigators made an unannounced visit to a Marshalls store on White Plains Road in the Bronx. The department then proposed that TJX conduct a comprehensive self-audit across its New York stores covering August 2020 to August 2023.
TJX paid out $674,526 to 7,577 employees, with individual amounts reaching as high as $4,686. The department said Governor Hochul remains committed to combating wage theft. In 2025 the department recovered over $35 million in lost wages and collected $2.2 million in related penalties; since Hochul took office in 2021, it has recovered and returned more than $130 million to nearly 125,000 workers.
