Ohio: Columbus City Attorney Announces Court-Ordered Closure of Aurora Nightlife Bar Over Violent Crime

Friday, October 30, 2026 · City · GSM News

Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio — Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein announced on Oct. 30 that Aurora Nightlife, a bar at 1025 East 5th Avenue in the city's Near East Side, will be shut down by court order.

The bar has been evicted from the premises and the property boarded up until further notice. The city attorney's office said its Property Action Team reached an agreement with the Franklin County Municipal Court on Oct. 28 to close the bar because of its history of violent crime, shootings and after-hours liquor sales. Court documents show multiple liquor code violations and numerous police runs to the bar, including reports of shots fired, vehicle break-ins, assaults and shootings, with a 16-year-old involved in incidents over the past two weekends. As part of the court order, the bar's liquor permit will be placed in safekeeping, and Columbus police and the court will conduct regular inspections to ensure compliance.

The city attorney's office did not say whether the bar's owner will challenge the closure order or whether the property may reopen in the future. Nearby residents and businesses had long complained about safety problems at the bar, and the closure is the city's latest action against a problem property.
