Philadelphia, Pennsylvania — Eight Philadelphia Phillies players officially entered free agency on Oct. 29, opening the club's offseason rebuild, Heavy reported Oct. 30.

The group includes left-handers Jose Alvarado, Brooks Raley and Nestor Cortes, second baseman Luis Arraez, third baseman Alec Bohm, outfielder Adolis Garcia and infielder-outfielder Edmundo Sosa. Four-time All-Star Arraez is the biggest name: he joined the Phillies at the trade deadline for a World Series push but was injured in the final week of the regular season and missed the Wild Card Series against the Atlanta Braves.

The Phillies' season ended with the Wild Card Series loss to Atlanta, and the departures bring the 40-man roster down to 32. Under league rules, clubs have five days to negotiate exclusively with their own free agents; from 5 p.m. on Nov. 2, players may negotiate with other teams. Philadelphia's next moves are expected to center on the infield and the pitching rotation.
