USDA Announces Three Added Practices for Missouri Regenerative Pilot: Lower Fiscal 2027 Threshold, Apply by November 6 for Current-Year Funding

Columbia, Missouri — The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service announced in Columbia on October 30 that three additional practices will be eligible for Missouri farmers in the Regenerative Pilot Program in fiscal year 2027: annual forages for grazing systems, alley cropping and contour buffer strips, helping producers adopt conservation systems that improve soil health, water quality and long-term farm resilience.

NRCS said the change uses its locally led conservation model, under which State Technical Advisory Committees recommend additional practices reflecting local resource concerns, production systems and producer needs, complementing the program's nationwide core practices.

The pilot also lowers the barrier to entry: the share of an applicant's land that must address identified critical soil and water resource concerns in a conservation stewardship plan drops from 100% to 75%, while the whole-farm planning requirement remains.

Nate Goodrich, NRCS State Conservationist in Missouri, said the added practices give local producers more opportunities to adopt conservation systems. Farmers can sign up anytime through their local NRCS Service Center, but Missouri producers seeking funding during the current fiscal year should apply by November 6, 2026.
