White Plains, Westchester County, New York — Governor Kathy Hochul has ordered flags on state buildings to be flown at half-staff statewide on October 30 in honor of Jamil Wilson, a State Thruway Authority worker who was fatally injured while working on the Cross Westchester Expressway in White Plains.

Wilson had worked in the Thruway Authority's Cross Westchester Expressway Maintenance Section for six years and was fatally injured on October 19 while performing mowing operations. Hochul's announcement said Wilson is survived by his fiancee, two children and other loved ones.

Flags will fly at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on October 30, and the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge across the Hudson River will be illuminated orange that evening in Wilson's memory.

The Thruway Authority maintains and operates New York's toll highway system, and the Cross Westchester Expressway is one of Westchester County's main east-west routes. Ordering flags to half-staff is New York's customary tribute to public employees killed in the line of duty, and the bridge lighting lets passing drivers share in the remembrance. The state did not release further investigation details in the announcement, and funeral arrangements were not disclosed.
