Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee — Knox County Criminal Court Judge Scott Green died on October 30 at age 64, Knox County Chancellor Bud Armstrong confirmed the same day.

Green was first elected as a criminal court judge in 2014 and served in the Knox County judiciary thereafter. He graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a bachelor's degree in political science and earned his law degree from the University of Tennessee.

In private practice, Green represented Letalvis Cobbins, one of the defendants in the nationally notorious 2007 Knoxville murders of a young couple. As the successor judge in the court where Christa Pike was convicted, he denied a motion to reopen her case in 2023.

The Knox County District Attorney's Office expressed condolences on Green's death. Under the rules, his successor will be appointed by the governor and serve until voters elect a replacement in 2028. The court has not announced arrangements for handing over his caseload.
