Bloomberg Pours Nearly $36 Million More Into Democratic Races in Final Election Week, After $80 Million Last Week

Michael Bloomberg, the former New York City mayor and presidential contender and one of Democrats' most important megadonors, plunged nearly $36 million more into a bevy of House, Senate and gubernatorial campaigns this week, POLITICO's Playbook reported on October 30. That is on top of the late-breaking $80 million he already announced last week.
The money breaks down into several buckets: Bloomberg gave $16 million to House Majority PAC, the Democratic leadership-aligned super PAC, and $12 million, also for House races, to Everytown for Gun Safety, the gun reform nonprofit Bloomberg co-founded. He also donated to a handful of prominent statewide candidates: $2.5 million to Keisha Lance Bottoms' Georgia gubernatorial campaign, $2.5 million to James Talarico's Texas Senate race, $2 million to Adam Hamilton's Kansas Senate campaign, and $750,000 to Gina Hinojosa's Texas gubernatorial bid.
The eleventh-hour spending came as Bloomberg's political team saw a two-pronged chance to make an impact: shoring up long-competitive races where they wanted to erase Republicans' financial advantage on TV, and expanding into reach seats where the polling is close but little outside money had come in. "When the wind is at your back, you want to put more boats in the water," Howard Wolfson, a senior adviser to Bloomberg, told Playbook. "And it seemed to us that the wind was even more strongly blowing this week."
The House Majority PAC money went toward investments in 10 districts: Colorado's 3rd and 5th Districts, Florida's 7th, 9th, 13th and 27th, Nebraska's 1st, New York's 21st, Washington's 3rd and Wisconsin's 3rd, mostly funding TV and streaming ads down the final stretch. The Everytown donations reinforce its eight target races supporting former Moms Demand Action volunteers in Arizona's 6th District, Florida's 22nd, Iowa's 1st, 2nd and 3rd, Michigan's 8th and 10th, and Pennsylvania's 8th, Playbook reported.
