Idaho Grocery Tax Credit Refunds Hit Record $254.8 Million, With 813,241 Claims Processed So Far

Idaho Governor Brad Little announced on October 30 that the state has returned a record-breaking $254.8 million to residents through the 2025 grocery tax credit, the largest such refund in state history. The governor's office is in Boise, Ada County, Idaho.
According to the governor's office, the Idaho State Tax Commission has so far processed 813,241 grocery tax credit claims for 2025, totaling $254,849,965, and the total is still climbing as final claims are processed. By comparison, Idaho issued $205,162,246 across 822,401 claims for 2024, and $201,902,723 across 805,341 claims for 2023. This year's refunds are about $49 million more than last year's.
Little said high grocery prices are squeezing family budgets and hitting seniors hard, which is why the Legislature and he have focused on expanded tax relief, and he called the record food tax relief proof of the state's commitment to keeping more money in residents' wallets.
The increase follows House Bill 231, signed into law by Little in 2025, which expanded the grocery tax credit. The governor's office said Little and the Legislature have delivered more than $6.1 billion in total tax relief since he took office.
