Follow-Up: Expo 2030 Riyadh Opens October 1, 2030, With More Than 42 Million Visitors Projected: Rubio Signs U.S. Participation Contract in Atlanta
The U.S. Department of State issued a media note on October 30 with further details of the Expo 2030 Riyadh participation contract signed that day in Atlanta by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan, on the sidelines of the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting. GSM earlier reported the signing itself, as recorded in the State Department's readout of the two ministers' meeting.
Expo 2030 opens in Riyadh on October 1, 2030, and runs through mid-March 2031. Saudi Arabia projects more than 42 million visitors from over 200 countries, making Expo 2030 one of the decade's largest public and commercial diplomacy platforms, the media note said. The United States will use Expo 2030 to showcase American innovation, expand commercial opportunities for U.S. businesses and strengthen the bilateral relationship with Saudi Arabia; formalizing participation is the first step in preparation and planning for the USA Pavilion.
At the signing ceremony at the Loews Atlanta, Secretary Rubio said: "We're excited to sign this contract that announces the United States formal commitment to Expo 2030, which will be held in Riyadh. It's still a few years away, but this is an important first step to prepare for a world-leading USA Pavilion in Riyadh, which we're very excited about. This is an opportunity to strengthen our bilateral relationship with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and to showcase America on the global stage and expand commercial opportunities for U.S. businesses."
Foreign Minister Al Saud thanked Secretary Rubio for his engagement and support for Expo 2030 and said Saudi Arabia looks forward to seeing the U.S. Pavilion and everything it has to offer.
