Missouri Proclaims November 1-7 as Water and Wastewater Professionals Week

Saturday, October 31, 2026 · States · GSM News

Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe has signed a proclamation declaring November 1-7 as Water and Wastewater Professionals Week in Missouri. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources, based in Jefferson City in Cole County, announced the proclamation recognizing the vital work water and wastewater professionals do to keep Missourians healthy and communities strong.

The proclamation highlights the contributions these professionals make to protect public health and improve water quality for the state's streams, rivers and lakes. Operators treat drinking water so it is safe to use and process wastewater before it returns to the environment, work that runs around the clock behind the scenes in every community.

Missouri's drinking water and wastewater systems consist of treatment plants, distribution and collection networks and laboratories across urban and rural areas. Operators are trained and certified to carry out water quality testing, plant operations and maintenance.

The Department of Natural Resources said the observance is an opportunity for the public to learn more about the work of water and wastewater professionals and how to join the profession, including the path to becoming a certified operator.

For more information about the work water and wastewater professionals do, or how to become a certified operator, residents can contact the Missouri Department of Natural Resources' Water Protection Program at 800-361-4827 or 573-751-1600.
