Inside Safe Brings 40 Angelenos Indoors in Chesterfield Square, Its 146th Operation Citywide

Saturday, October 31, 2026 · City · GSM News

The Mayor's Office of the City of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, announced on October 30 that Inside Safe, the mayor's signature initiative, carried out a new operation in Chesterfield Square in South Los Angeles on October 29, bringing 40 unhoused Angelenos from street encampments into safe interim housing with medical care and supportive services.

It was the program's 146th operation, at two locations: an alley at 54th Street and Van Ness Avenue, and an industrial corridor near Gage Avenue and St. Andrew's Place, in coordination with Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson. Vanessa, who had lived at the encampment for 11 years, moved in together with her dog Solo; she said the outreach team had come the week before while she was away, but she had left her information with a friend, and the team still came back for her: "You guys still came, you helped me, and now I'm getting housing."

Since its launch, Inside Safe has transitioned more than 6,500 unsheltered Angelenos into interim housing and removed more than 200 RVs from city streets. Mayor Karen Bass said the families of Chesterfield Square deserve safe streets, and the people who were living on its sidewalks deserve a safe place indoors, which is what Inside Safe is about.
