Two Chicago Halloween Parades Today: Haunted Halsted's 30th Night March and the Family Upside Down Parade in Washington Park

CHICAGO — Chicago marks Halloween with two parades on opposite sides of the city. On the North Side, the Haunted Halsted Halloween Parade marches through the Northalsted neighborhood at 7 p.m. on October 31. Now in its 30th year, the free parade travels along Halsted Street and includes a costume contest.
On the South Side, Washington Park hosts the Upside Down Halloween Parade from noon to 2 p.m. the same day. Organized by the community arts group LUMA8 as part of the Mayor's Fall Fest, the all-ages event flips the usual format, with children leading the procession and adults following.
Choose Chicago, the city's official tourism organization, lists both parades among this year's headline Halloween events. The season opened earlier with the Arts in the Dark parade on Columbus Drive on October 24.
City officials note temporary traffic controls along both routes, with buses near Halsted Street detoured during the evening parade. Families heading to the daytime event in Washington Park are advised to arrive early and plan for an early sunset and chilly evening temperatures.
