Nevada Day Observed Statewide on Oct. 30: State and Local Government Offices Closed for the 162nd Statehood Anniversary (Actual Birthday Oct. 31)

Nevada observed its Nevada Day holiday statewide on Friday, October 30, with most state and local government offices closed, along with public schools and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. By law, Nevada Day falls on the last Friday of October, while the state's actual statehood day is October 31: Nevada joined the Union on October 31, 1864, as the 'Battle Born' state during the Civil War, and turns 162 this year.
The holiday does not affect voting: voters could still cast early ballots from October 30 through November 1 at sites including in Las Vegas, ahead of the November 3 election.
