Delaware Seeks Descendants After Remains of at Least Three People Found Near Greenwood

Near Greenwood, Sussex County, Delaware, the Delaware Division of Historical and Cultural Affairs issued a notice on October 31 seeking possible descendants of the people whose skeletal remains were found near Greenwood on September 16.
The remains were discovered during excavation for a swimming pool on private property on Hickman Road near Adamsville, west of Greenwood. Officials determined the remains belonged to at least three people — an adult male, an adult female and a child — though their ages and ethnicities are uncertain. Research is ongoing, but the burials likely date to between 1780 and 1900.
According to the division, around 1836 Roger Adams acquired the property from John Bullock, who had inherited it from his father, Richard Bullock; Adams family descendants owned the land until 1913. It is unclear whether any of the prior owners were buried there.
Descendants of people who lived on the property, or anyone with evidence that relatives were buried there, are asked to contact the division at 302-736-7400 or at 29 N. State St. in Dover by December 11.
