Across Louisiana, the United States flag and the Louisiana state flag were lowered to half-staff on October 31 in honor of legendary Louisiana State University (LSU) basketball coach Dale Brown.

Governor Jeff Landry said in a statement on social media: "Today, the flags of the United States and the State of Louisiana fly at half-staff in honor of legendary LSU Basketball coach, Dale Brown. A devoted husband for 67 years to Vonnie, a beloved father to Robyn, and a tremendous leader both on and off the court. Thank you Coach for the memories, lessons, and victories. You will be missed by Tiger Nation and the State of Louisiana!"

Brown coached the LSU Tigers for 25 seasons, winning 448 games and reaching two Final Fours, and remains one of the most emblematic figures in the program's history. GSM reported on October 23 that Brown had died at age 90. October 31 would have been his 91st birthday, lending the half-staff tribute added poignancy.
