Saturday, October 31, 2026 · States · GSM News

In Augusta, Kennebec County, Maine, the Maine Judicial Branch announced on October 29 the procedure for emergency case filings regarding the November 3 election.

Under a standing order issued October 28 by Superior Court Chief Justice Robert Mullen and District Court Chief Judge Brent Davis, all filings pertaining to the November 3 election that are filed between 4:00 p.m. on Friday, October 30 and 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3 must be filed on paper at the clerk's office. Filers should not use the eFile Maine system for these emergency filings.

The Judicial Branch said the arrangement is meant to expedite review: paper filings will be reviewed immediately by a clerk and can be directed to the appropriate justice for timely review, and filers are encouraged to put a cell phone number or emergency contact number on their filings. State courthouses in Bangor, Augusta and Portland will stay open until 9:00 p.m. on November 3 to accept and act on emergency paper filings, each staffed by a judge, a clerk and a marshal. All public documents related to election filings will be posted on the Judicial Branch website's high-profile page as soon as practicable.
