Nevada's Newest State Park Named Crossroads Canyon: 1,627-Acre Dayton Property Chosen Through 2,400 Suggestions and Nearly 3,000 Votes

In Dayton, Lyon County, Nevada, the Nevada Division of State Parks announced on October 31 that the state's newest state park will be named Crossroads Canyon State Park.
The 1,627-acre property in Dayton lies along the Carson River. The name was chosen through a public process: the division received 2,400 name suggestions in July 2026, staff selected five finalists, and in an August public vote Crossroads Canyon received a majority of the nearly 3,000 votes cast. State Parks Administrator Jonathan Brunjes said the name reflects the property's history as a crossroads for people, cultures and travel routes for generations.
The division said the park is not yet open for public recreation. Fort Churchill Road remains open as a county road through the property, but areas beyond the road remain closed during the planning and development phase.
