In Washington State, Governor Bob Ferguson has appointed Jenifer Chao to be executive director of the Washington State Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs (CAPAA), effective November 1, according to a Northwest Asian Weekly report published October 30.

The commission is a state agency tasked with understanding and improving the lives of Asian, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander residents in Washington, and advising the governor and the state legislature on policies affecting those communities.

For Washington's Asian, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities, the commission is an important bridge between the state government and residents, gathering community input and promoting culturally and linguistically accessible public services. The appointment takes effect November 1.
