DeQuincy, Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana — Louisiana State Police said on October 31 that a two-vehicle crash on the night of October 30 killed two Sulphur residents and that the other driver has been arrested on two counts of vehicular homicide.

Shortly after 9 p.m. on October 30, on Louisiana Highway 389 east of Hargrove Loop Road, a 2017 Chevrolet pickup driven by 26-year-old Dylan Havens was traveling west when it struck the rear of a Jeep that was ahead of it and slowing to turn left into a private driveway. Both vehicles left the roadway. The Jeep's driver, a 51-year-old man, later died at a hospital, and its passenger, a 52-year-old woman, died at the scene; both had been properly restrained.

Troopers said Havens showed signs of impairment; a toxicology sample was collected under a search warrant and sent for analysis. After release from the hospital, Havens was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center on two counts of vehicular homicide, plus careless operation and speeding. The crash remains under investigation.
