Salem Closes Downtown Streets from Noon on Halloween; Garages Bar Entry from 6 P.M.

Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts — Salem's annual Halloween celebrations peaked on October 31, and the city's updated visitor guide, issued October 28, confirms that downtown streets closed to vehicles by noon at the latest, with visitors urged to switch to public transit.
This year's celebration coincides with Salem's 400th anniversary, and downtown crowds were expected to be especially heavy. Under the guide, Salem's parking garages closed to entering vehicles from 6 p.m. on October 31, and cars already inside could not leave until 11:30 p.m. or until the festivities ended.
The last commuter trains on Halloween night leave at 11:14 p.m. toward Boston, 11:56 p.m. toward Rockport, and 12:26 a.m. on November 1 toward Newburyport. The city urged visitors to use commuter rail rather than drive, to avoid the closures and garage restrictions.
