Fire Damages Senatobia Police Headquarters; Federal ATF Agents Join Investigation

Saturday, October 31, 2026 · States · GSM News

Senatobia, Tate County, Mississippi — A fire on the morning of October 31 damaged the headquarters of the Senatobia Police Department, and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and local agencies are investigating; what caused the fire was not yet clear.

The Senatobia Fire Department said firefighters were dispatched at 4:58 a.m. for smoke in the building and quickly knocked the fire down. No details on the extent of the damage were released. The Associated Press sought comment from the fire department, the police department and the Tate County Sheriff's Office.

Senatobia, a city of about 8,000 people some 40 miles south of Memphis, has seen its police department draw community outrage in recent months: in June, an officer investigating a Walmart shoplifting call fired into a moving vehicle and killed 1-year-old Kohen Wiley. The police chief was fired in September, and the officer involved resigned earlier this month after the state Attorney General's office cleared him of criminal wrongdoing.
