Cherokee Volleyball Sweeps Manteo for First State Championship in Program History

Buies Creek, Harnett County, North Carolina — The Cherokee High School girls' volleyball team swept Manteo 26-24, 25-20, 25-20 on October 31 in the state 2A championship final at Campbell University's Gilbert Craig Gore Arena, winning the first state title in program history. The state tournament was hosted by Campbell University for the first time this year.
Outside hitter Joscelyn Stamper led Cherokee with 14 kills and was named the final's Most Valuable Player. Cherokee finished the season 30-7, with four of the losses coming against out-of-state teams; this year's senior class leaves with a four-year record of 106-22.
Cherokee was already one of the state's premier girls' basketball programs, with three consecutive state basketball championships. With the volleyball title, Cherokee becomes the first western North Carolina volleyball program to win a state championship since 2024.
