South Burlington, Chittenden County, Vermont — In the state Division II boys' soccer final at South Burlington High School on October 31, No. 2 seed Rice Memorial High School beat No. 5 seed and reigning champion Milton 3-2, winning its first state championship since the Division I title in 2015.

Rice led twice, and after going up 3-1 in the second half held off Milton's comeback. Substitute Flint Crary scored two goals, including the game-winner from outside the box in the second half. Rice finished the season 16-1-1, outscoring opponents 65-12 with 10 shutouts, and conceded just twice in the playoffs — both times to Milton.

Fourteen different Rice players scored this season, led by Alex Aslakson's team-high 13 goals. Milton finished 12-6, having lost twice to Rice in the regular season, but twice cut the deficit in the final, showing a champion's resilience.
