Tariffs a Hot Topic in Washington's 1st Congressional District as DelBene Seeks Eighth Term against Silva

Washington's 1st Congressional District, covering parts of Snohomish and King counties, saw tariffs become a central campaign issue in coverage published October 31.
Incumbent Democratic Representative Suzan DelBene is seeking an eighth term. She said the trade war that began at the start of the Trump administration has hit Washington farmers hard, with retaliation raising prices and making goods harder to sell, and Western Washington University studies show cross-border commerce and travel with Canada have been strained over the past two years. DelBene said that if Democrats recapture the House, they will focus on wrestling back control of trade policy, which she said belongs to Congress.
Republican challenger Mary Silva said higher prices from tariffs are a short-term problem and that, keeping long-term gains in mind, bringing back American ingenuity and spending on American products will uplift voters. Voting in Washington ends at 8 p.m. on November 3; voters can return ballots by drop box or mail until then.
