Early Voting Tops 49 Million, a Midterm Record, as Campaign Enters Final Weekend

More than 49 million Americans have already cast early ballots in this year's midterm elections, a record for a midterm cycle, Reuters reported on October 31, citing the University of Florida's Election Lab. The total, covering ballots cast in person and by mail, is nearing 50 million.
The figure is up from nearly 46 million ballots cast before Election Day in the last midterms, in 2022, and is expected to keep rising with several days left before Election Day on Tuesday, November 3.
All 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 of the 100 Senate seats are up for grabs. The outcome will decide control of Congress and shape the final two years of President Donald Trump's term.
The campaign has entered its final weekend. Reuters reported that Trump, after a month of campaign stops in multiple states, has no travel scheduled on Saturday and returns to the trail on Sunday in Kansas and Iowa.
On confidence in the count, a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted September 30 to October 5 found 76 percent of voters confident their ballots will be counted accurately, 15 percent not confident, and the rest unsure or not answering; confidence was about equally high among Republicans and Democrats.
