New York City Marathon Runs November 1: Nearly 60,000 Runners, 50 Years of the Five-Borough Course

The 2026 TCS New York City Marathon will take place on Sunday, November 1, in New York, with nearly 60,000 runners taking on the course through all five boroughs. This year's race commemorates the 50th anniversary of the iconic five-borough course, which was first run in 1976 to celebrate the nation's Bicentennial and uplift the city.
New York Road Runners (NYRR), the nonprofit that produces the race, has unveiled a professional athlete field headlined by three defending champions: Hellen Obiri of Kenya in the women's open division, Benson Kipruto of Kenya in the men's open division, and Marcel Hug of Switzerland in the men's wheelchair division.
The lineup features 40 Olympians and Paralympians, 25 Olympic, Paralympic and World Championships medalists, and 22 national record holders. Former champions returning include Sheila Chepkirui, Catherine Debrunner, Geoffrey Kamworor, Tatyana McFadden, Abdi Nageeye, Madison de Rozario, Daniel Romanchuk and David Weir.
A deep American lineup is led by Weini Kelati, making her marathon debut, alongside Joe Klecker, Conner Mantz, Jess McClain and Zouhair Talbi.
NYRR produces 60 annual adult and youth races and provides free youth and community programming.
