Syracuse Upset No. 19 SMU 30-27: A Winning Touchdown With 17 Seconds Left, a First Ranked Win Since 2024

Syracuse upset No. 19 SMU 30-27 at home on October 31, as Steve Angeli hit tight end Noah Meyers on a 2-yard touchdown pass with 17 seconds left — Syracuse's first win over a ranked team since November 30, 2024.
Trailing 27-23 with 3:36 remaining, Angeli drove the Orange 68 yards in 11 plays from their own 32, and Meyers scored his first Syracuse touchdown. Angeli finished 21 of 34 for 200 yards and opened the scoring with a 26-yard touchdown run.
Syracuse had led 20-10 at halftime, then fell behind 27-20 in the fourth quarter after a safety on an intentional-grounding call in the end zone, before Tripp Woody's third field goal made it 27-23. Syracuse's defense sacked SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings four times; Jennings threw for 351 yards and two touchdowns in defeat.
Syracuse improved to 4-4 overall and 2-4 in the ACC with a second straight win and hosts Clemson on November 7. SMU fell to 6-2 and 4-2 and could drop out of the Top 25. (Reporting by the Associated Press)
