The Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Los Angeles County, hosted a defensive showcase on October 31 as No. 7 UCLA shut out Nevada 27-0 in front of 24,611 fans, improving to 8-0 for the first time since 2005.

UCLA's defense intercepted Nevada starter Luke Duncan three times in the first quarter alone: his first pass was picked off by Scooter Jackson to set up an opening field goal, and Derrick Barksdale followed with a 26-yard interception return for a touchdown and a 10-0 lead. The Bruins finished with four interceptions and three sacks, holding Nevada to 176 total yards and just 65 rushing yards. Duncan was benched after his third interception, and Nevada cycled through four quarterbacks who combined to complete 8 of 24 passes.

On offense, backup quarterback Ty Dieffenbach went 16 of 30 for 178 yards and a touchdown pass and added a 4-yard scoring run in the second quarter for a 17-0 lead, while running back Wayne Knight extended his streak of games with a touchdown to eight. Edge rusher Sahir West led the defense with nine tackles and 1.5 sacks.

It was UCLA's first shutout since a 2015 rout of Oregon State and its first at home since blanking Oregon in 2007. Nevada fell to 3-5; its previous shutout loss was also 27-0, at Minnesota in 2024. UCLA visits Minnesota next week, with the first College Football Playoff rankings due Tuesday. (Reporting by the New York Post and Nevada Sports Net)
