No. 14 Wake Forest routed Virginia 51-7 on October 31 at Allegacy Federal Credit Union Stadium in Winston-Salem, stretching its winning streak to five games — the Demon Deacons' longest since an 8-0 start in 2021. Wake Forest scored on its first nine possessions and has now outscored its last four opponents 187-31.

Quarterback Gio Lopez completed 13 of 21 passes for 229 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 64 yards, finding Carlos Hernandez (eight catches, 136 yards) on a 10-yard scoring strike in the third quarter. Ty Clark III set a career high with three short rushing touchdowns, and Connor Calvert kicked field goals of 45, 25 and 44 yards. Wake Forest outgained Virginia 538-330, including a 309-16 edge on the ground, and converted 9 of 14 third downs to Virginia's 1 of 12.

Lopez limped off late in the third quarter after a hit to his lower right leg and did not return, with the win already assured. Jamar Searcy (a team-high 78 rushing yards) added a 7-yard scoring run and Kyndall McCaleb a 27-yarder in the fourth. Virginia avoided the shutout with 50 seconds left in the third quarter on Beau Pribula's 47-yard touchdown pass to Da'Shawn Martin; Pribula finished with 212 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Wake Forest improved to 7-1 and hosts Merrimack next week. Virginia lost its third straight to fall to 4-5 and must win two of its last three games to become bowl eligible. (Reporting by the Associated Press and Field Level Media)
