Saturday, October 31, 2026 · California · GSM News

The Halloween night ride crash in Montclair, in California's San Bernardino County, has moved into court: the County District Attorney's Office announced on October 27 that Valentin Alberto Rodriguez, 38, has been formally charged with two counts of murder and multiple DUI-related felonies, case number FWV26003702. The two victims have been identified as Robert Garcia Umanzor, 25, and Rumor Ortiz, 30.

The crash happened at about 10:39 p.m. on October 24 at Kingsley Street and Tudor Avenue. A group of roughly 30 cyclists on a Halloween night ride was heading east on Kingsley Street when a westbound 2021 Honda Accord struck several riders. Umanzor was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:44 p.m.; Ortiz was taken to a hospital and died early the next morning. Two other riders were injured, one seriously.

Rodriguez, a Montclair resident, fled the scene, police said. With help from witnesses, investigators arrested him at about 2:40 a.m. on October 25 at his home near the crash site, and he was booked into the West Valley Detention Center.

The charges are allegations, and Rodriguez is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. The investigation is ongoing, and police continue to ask witnesses to come forward.
