New York's 53rd Village Halloween Parade Steps Off Tonight; DOT Publishes Sixth Avenue Closures

NEW YORK — The 53rd Village Halloween Parade takes over Manhattan on the night of October 31. The New York City Department of Transportation's weekend traffic advisory sets out the closures for the parade, which steps off at 7 p.m. and travels up Sixth Avenue from Spring Street to West 18th Street.
According to the DOT, the formation area covers Sixth Avenue between Spring and Canal streets, plus Dominick, Sullivan, Broome, and Spring streets. Dispersal areas are West 16th, 17th, and 18th streets between Fifth and Seventh avenues, and Fifth and Seventh avenues between 14th and 19th streets, with streets closing as the parade moves. A construction embargo is also in effect from October 28 to 31 along the route.
Brooklyn marks the day with its own Park Slope Halloween Parade, forming on 14th Street and proceeding along Seventh Avenue from 15th Street to 3rd Street.
Founded in 1974, the Village Halloween Parade is New York's largest Halloween celebration, drawing tens of thousands of costumed marchers and spectators each year. Police advise attendees to note the closure areas and take the subway, as stations near the route will be crowded before step-off.
