On November 1, China News Service reported from Washington that the Chinese Embassy in the United States held an event on October 31 marking the 160th anniversary of the birth of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, attended by about 150 representatives of overseas Chinese from both sides of the Taiwan Strait. Chinese Ambassador to the United States Xie Feng delivered a speech at the event titled "Carrying Forward Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Legacy, Pooling Strength for National Rejuvenation." The film "Sun Yat-sen" was screened at the event, which also featured a photo exhibition, "Walking the Same Path — Dr. Sun Yat-sen and the Overseas Chinese."

Attendees said Dr. Sun's historic contributions and noble character command deep respect, and that overseas Chinese in the United States will carry forward his love for his homeland, promote Chinese culture, advance people-to-people friendship between China and the United States, and contribute more to cross-strait reunification, national rejuvenation and the stable, healthy and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations. Dr. Sun had deep ties with the overseas Chinese, who gave important support to the 1911 Revolution and to China's modernization; this commemorative event and photo exhibition in Washington served as an occasion to revisit that history and build consensus within the overseas Chinese community. The event was hosted by the Chinese Embassy for overseas Chinese in the greater Washington area; in a solemn atmosphere, community representatives watched the film and the exhibition together in memory of Dr. Sun.
