Austin Council Races Draw More Than $2 Million Ahead of Election

Sunday, November 1, 2026 · Society · GSM News

On November 1, the City of Austin, Travis County, Texas, entered the final week before the November 3 election, and the money picture in the city council races had come into focus. According to the last campaign finance filings, through October 26, Austin city council candidates in 2026 had raised and spent slightly more than $965,000 in total, with more than $500,000 still available for the final week; local political action committees supporting candidates and ballot measures spent about $1.2 million over the same period, putting the combined total above $2 million.

Five council districts — Districts 1, 3, 5, 8 and 9 — are up for election this year, and voters will also decide two bond propositions and eight city charter amendments, including a $260 million parks bond and a $35 million library bond. The six candidates seeking to succeed the departing District 1 council member raised more than $258,000 combined and spent more than $223,000. The finance filings give voters the most complete picture of campaign money before the final week.
