Three Halloween Night Shootings in Dallas's Deep Ellum Kill 4 and Injure 15: At Least One Person in Custody

In Dallas, Dallas County, Texas, Police Chief Daniel Comeaux told a news conference on the morning of November 1 that a series of shootings in the Deep Ellum entertainment district, just east of downtown, on Halloween night left four people dead and 15 injured; some of the wounded took themselves to hospitals, and the injury count could still rise. Dallas City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert issued a statement the same day expressing condolences to the victims and their families.

Police said the three shootings occurred at about 12:20 a.m. on November 1 in the 2600 block of Elm Street, at about 1:05 a.m. in the 2600 block of Main Street, and at about 1:35 a.m. in the 200 block of South Crowdus Street. The incidents happened at different times and locations, whether they are connected remains under investigation, and at least one person has been detained. Comeaux called the situation "completely unacceptable" and said police would do everything needed to bring those responsible into custody.

Deep Ellum is a historic entertainment and arts district that has seen a rise in violent crime in recent years, prompting business owners to petition the city for help. Police said extra officers had been deployed to the area for Halloween, and the investigation is continuing.
