Monday, November 2, 2026 · City · GSM News

The Riverside Police Department, in Riverside County, California, announced on October 30 that detectives have broken a series of armed robberies in the university area, arresting 18-year-old Riverside resident Shareef Pendergrass on October 26. He was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on six counts of armed robbery, with bail set at $280,000.

Police said the series began on October 23 at about 7:57 p.m., when a UC Riverside student walking near 1038 Linden Street was approached from behind by a suspect on a scooter who demanded money; the victim believed the suspect had a handgun. Detectives determined the victim had no affiliation with the nearby Islamic Center of Riverside. Later that evening, a second, similar robbery occurred near Blaine Street and Canyon Crest Drive by the Stonehaven Apartments.

On October 24 at about 7:07 p.m., another robbery was reported at the University Crest Apartments, 3130 Canyon Crest Drive. Robbery-Homicide Unit detectives and UC Riverside police investigators, assisted by the department's METRO and PACT teams, arrested Pendergrass on October 26 and served a search warrant at his residence, recovering evidence linked to the robberies.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information can contact Detective Stanley Hua at (951) 353-7135 or UC Riverside Police Detective Jonathan Estrada at (951) 827-6197.
