Murray State Awarded $1.9 Million Federal Grant to Continue TRIO Talent Search in Western Kentucky

Murray State University, in Murray, Calloway County, Kentucky, announced on October 15 that it has been awarded a five-year, $1.9 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to continue its TRIO Talent Search program, which helps students in western Kentucky prepare for and pursue postsecondary education.
The new grant provides $380,000 a year for five years and will allow Murray State's Talent Search program to serve 760 students each year in partner school districts across the region: Carlisle County Schools, Christian County Schools, Fulton County Schools, Fulton Independent Schools, Mayfield Independent Schools, Paducah Public Schools, the Hickman County School District and Trigg County Schools.
Talent Search is one of the U.S. Department of Education's federal TRIO programs, which are designed to increase access to and completion of postsecondary education for students who are traditionally underrepresented in higher education. The program identifies and assists middle and high school students, particularly those from low-income households and families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree, with academic guidance, college preparation and application support.
Murray State's Talent Search program has operated since 2016. The university's TRIO Talent Search director is Audrey Neal, and program information is available through the university's Talent Search page.
