Texas Routs Mississippi State 31-3 but Loses Five Starters to Injury

Sunday, November 1, 2026 · Sports · GSM News

The University of Texas Longhorns, in Austin, Travis County, Texas, beat Mississippi State 31-3 on the night of October 31, but the win proved costly: five regulars left the game with injuries. Head coach Steve Sarkisian confirmed after the game that both starting wide receivers, Cam Coleman and Ryan Wingo, running back Hollywood Smothers and defensive backs Graceson Littleton and Kade Phillips did not finish; the severity of all five injuries is unknown, with a clearer picture expected by midweek.

Texas was already shorthanded: All-America-caliber edge rusher Colin Simmons, edge Richard Wesley and offensive tackle Trevor Goosby were already out, with Goosby done for the season. The team hopes Simmons can return within one to two weeks. Sarkisian said a priority this week is getting as many injured players back as possible, and that recovery work has to start immediately.

Texas next travels to Columbia to face the No. 23 Missouri Tigers. The school has not released specifics on the five new injuries or expected recovery times.
