Wisconsin Governor's Race Enters Final Stretch: Marquette Poll Has Crowley up 7 over Tiffany

Wisconsin's race for governor entered its final stretch as Democratic candidate David Crowley, the Milwaukee County executive, and Republican candidate Tom Tiffany, a U.S. congressman, campaigned across the state on November 1 ahead of the November 3 vote. The latest Marquette Law School Poll gives Crowley a 51%-44% lead over Tiffany among likely voters, a seven-point edge, and a 47%-44% lead among registered voters; the survey of 818 registered voters, including 668 likely voters, was conducted October 14-22.
Tiffany rallied at Ebert's Greenhouse Village in Ixonia, in the Watertown area, calling for using the nearly $3 billion state budget surplus for income tax relief, ending taxes on tips and overtime, developing nuclear energy, auditing state government and ending permanent school revenue limit increases. Congressman Scott Fitzgerald, running mate David Varnam and state Republican Party Chair Brian Schimming joined him. Tiffany also criticized Crowley for raising taxes in Milwaukee County and for supporting study of interstate tolling.
Crowley campaigned the same day at the Northside Action Team office in Madison, accusing Republicans of working for billionaires and touting his record of balancing Milwaukee County's budget and keeping the Brewers in Milwaukee. He pledged to cap childcare costs at 7% of family income, expand health coverage, fully fund public schools and pass a constitutional amendment on abortion rights. Senator Tammy Baldwin, Congressman Mark Pocan, running mate Sarah Godlewski and Attorney General Josh Kaul appeared in support.
