Padres Reliever Wandy Peralta Exercises $4.45 Million Player Option to Stay in San Diego

Sunday, November 1, 2026 · Sports · GSM News

San Diego Padres left-handed reliever Wandy Peralta, in San Diego, San Diego County, California, on November 1 exercised his $4.45 million player option for 2027 and will stay with the Padres. Peralta signed a four-year, $16.5 million contract with San Diego in late January 2024 containing player options for 2025, 2026 and 2027; he has now exercised all three.

The 34-year-old went 4-3 with a 3.65 ERA over 57 2/3 innings last season. The share of top exit velocities allowed on his sinker actually fell, and his strikeout rate, long among the league's lowest, rose to 20.4% — still below average but his best in more than five years — although his 5.01 FIP suggests his ERA carried some good fortune.

With Peralta staying, and Nick Pivetta (who missed most of last season with an elbow injury and appeared in eight games) having exercised an end-of-season opt-out to join the Cleveland Guardians, who agreed to take on about $22.1 million of his salary, the winter plans of new Padres president of baseball operations and general manager Jed Hoyer are taking shape.
