Saturday, October 31, 2026 · States · GSM News

Just before 10 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, someone opened fire into the crowd at an outdoor party in Ellendale, Sussex County, Delaware, from a neighboring property, hitting nine people, including a 17-year-old girl who later died of her injuries, according to the Delaware State Police's preliminary investigation. Those injured ranged in age from 17 to 22. Ellendale is a small town about 20 miles northwest of Rehoboth Beach.

Delaware Governor Matt Meyer said in a statement: "This is not normal. We must never accept gun violence as a part of life in Delaware." Just over an hour later, at about 11:13 p.m., six people were shot along Main Street near the University of Delaware in Newark and taken to hospitals.

The two shootings were part of a violent Halloween weekend across the United States. By CNN's preliminary count, at least 13 people were killed and 92 injured nationwide, one of the most violent Halloween weekends in recent years. Police have not released suspect information in the Ellendale shooting; the investigation is ongoing.
