Weather Service Warns of Possible November Tornadoes in Kansas on Nov. 2

Monday, November 2, 2026 · States · GSM News

The National Weather Service office in Topeka, Shawnee County, Kansas, warned early on November 2 that parts of Kansas could see severe weather, including tornadoes, during the late afternoon and evening of Monday, November 2. Areas affected include Topeka, Hutchinson and Salina, with the highest risk in central, northeast and far eastern Kansas.

Forecasters said showers and thunderstorms are certain in central and eastern Kansas as a strong system approaches, with a few rounds of rain in the morning and early afternoon followed by possible severe storms ahead of a front, bringing damaging wind gusts, heavy rainfall and a few tornadoes. A graphic posted by the office shows a line of thunderstorms passing about 9 p.m. through an area including Topeka, Manhattan and Emporia. The office added that cloud cover and rain could limit storm intensity, though the environment could still favor damaging gusts and a tornado or two.

Topeka office meteorologist Jennifer Prieto said Shawnee County last saw a November tornado in 1988, when an F-2 twister on November 15 damaged 107 homes and 15 businesses in southwest Topeka and injured 22 people, with no deaths; the one before that was an F-2 tornado on November 8, 1970.
