Travel Oregon Signs Tourism MOUs With Seven Federally Recognized Tribes: First Agreements of Their Kind

Monday, November 2, 2026 · Travel · GSM News

In Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon, the Oregon Tourism Commission, doing business as Travel Oregon, announced on November 2 that it had signed formal memorandums of understanding with seven of Oregon's nine federally recognized Tribes, marking Native American Heritage Month. Travel Oregon described the MOUs as the first agreements of their kind, formalizing the partnership between the Tribes and the tourism industry and strengthening commitments to promote and develop tourism within Tribal lands.

The partnership has been several years in the making: working with the Tribal Tourism Working Group, Travel Oregon published the Travel Guide to Oregon Indian Country in 2023 and the updated Experience Indigenous Oregon guide in 2026, covering each Tribe's culture, heritage and tourism offerings. The commission's latest visitor study ranks Oregon's arts, culture and heritage among the top five visitor experiences and the fourth-highest motivator for visiting the state.

According to the latest ECOnorthwest report, Tribal casinos and resorts across Oregon employed 4,439 workers and supported another 662 jobs for Tribal governments, with $378.9 million in wages and benefits in total.
