Sen. Collins Accuses Schumer of False Attack Ads; Fox Poll Ties Maine Senate Race at 49%-49%

Sunday, November 1, 2026 · States · GSM News

Republican U.S. Senator Susan Collins of Maine accused Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and national Democrats on Sunday, November 1, of flooding her reelection race with false attack ads, telling Fox News she had never seen a campaign with "so many outright lies." Collins faces Democrat Troy Jackson in the election on Tuesday, November 3, and the latest Fox News poll shows the race tied at 49% to 49%.

Collins said one of the ads she considers completely false concerns Jeffrey Epstein, and that two Senate colleagues in close races have faced ads nearly identical to hers, which she described as part of Schumer's playbook. She accused Jackson, Schumer and their allies of trying to nationalize the race and pull attention away from Maine issues.

She also disputed a figure used against her that says she votes with President Trump 95% of the time, saying that number is based on only about 30% of Senate votes, while a broader sample covering about 90% of votes puts her support for the president's position at about 72%, and that she has voted against the president's policies 138 times. The Fox News report did not include a response from Schumer or the Jackson campaign to Collins' claims. Maine voters will decide the seat, which bears on control of the Senate, on November 3.
