Nevada Governor's Race: Twice-Vetoed Bills Could Return if Ford Wins

Monday, November 2, 2026 · States · GSM News

In Las Vegas, Clark County, Nevada, the Las Vegas Sun reports that if Democratic Attorney General Aaron Ford wins the governor's race, a long list of bills that Republican Governor Joe Lombardo vetoed in both 2023 and 2025 could be reintroduced when the Legislature convenes on February 1, 2027. The bills include capping prescription drug prices at Medicare levels, capping rent increases for seniors and barring people under 21 from owning semiautomatic rifles. The Sun counted at least eight other bills Lombardo rejected in both sessions.

Lombardo issued a state-record 87 vetoes in 2025. If Democrats keep their majorities in both legislative chambers and Ford wins, Democrats would control the governor's office and both chambers for the first time since January 2023. Polling averages show Ford and Lombardo tied at 42% each.

Ford says that if elected he would sign several of the vetoed measures within his first 30 days, including the drug-price cap, universal free school meals and limits on corporate homebuying. Senate Bill 391 would have capped corporate investors at 100 home purchases a year, Assembly Bill 280 would have limited senior rent increases to about 5% a year, and Assembly Bill 306 would have required clerks in certain counties to keep mail ballot drop boxes open between the end of early voting and Election Day. Vetoed bills do not become law automatically; each must be reintroduced and passed again. The November 3 vote will decide whether they return to the agenda.
