Oregon Hanford Cleanup Board Meets November 2 in Hood River to Advise the Energy Department on Nuclear Cleanup

Monday, November 2, 2026 · States · GSM News

In Hood River, Hood River County, Oregon, the Oregon Hanford Cleanup Board holds a public meeting on Monday, November 2, from 1:30 p.m. to about 5:30 p.m., in person and online via Microsoft Teams, with the agenda and meeting materials posted in advance on the state website. The meeting is organized by the Oregon Department of Energy together with the board.

The Hanford nuclear site sits on the Columbia River about 35 miles from the Oregon border and is one of the largest and most complex nuclear cleanup challenges in the world: more than 40 years of plutonium production for nuclear weapons left hundreds of billions of gallons of radioactive and chemically hazardous waste there.

The board's role is to provide input to the U.S. Department of Energy and its regulators on the Hanford cleanup, keep cleanup issues visible, ensure public involvement, and reinforce that Oregon has a major stake in a safe and timely cleanup. Members of the public who need interpreter services or disability accommodations can contact the Oregon Department of Energy in advance.
