Gulls Beat Colorado Eagles 3-2 in Shootout: Suchanek Makes 32 Saves in Season Debut

The San Diego Gulls beat the Colorado Eagles 3-2 in a shootout on November 1 at Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California, earning their first shootout victory of the AHL season in a physical game that included a fight separated by officials.
San Diego controlled most of the night. Matthew Phillips opened the scoring and Lucas Pettersson made it 2-0, and the Gulls held that lead until the final four minutes of regulation. Colorado rallied with a power-play goal and Tristen Nielsen's tying goal with 1:09 left to force overtime and a shootout.
In the shootout, captain Ryan Carpenter scored the winner on a backhand. Goaltender Tomas Suchanek, making his season debut, stopped 32 of 34 shots for his first win of the season after logging a 1-1-0 record in two appearances with Tulsa. The Gulls, the Anaheim Ducks' affiliate, bounced back from the previous night's overtime loss to the Henderson Silver Knights.
