Sunday, November 1, 2026 · Sports · GSM News

The St. Louis Cardinals of St. Louis, Missouri, announced on the evening of November 1 that they are declining reliever Ryne Stanek's $6 million team option for 2027, making the right-hander a free agent. The Cardinals will pay a $1 million buyout, saving $5 million, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Stanek, 35, pitched in 70 games for the Cardinals last season, going 2-3 with a 4.02 ERA as a key member of the bullpen. He was the Cardinals' only free agent this offseason.

President of Baseball Operations Chaim Bloom will now look for a new veteran reliever for the 2027 season. Teams can begin signing free agents on November 2 at 5 p.m. ET.
