Bangor Mall Declared Unfit for Habitation; Owner Owes More Than $2 Million, One Wing Condemned in January

Signs posted on the doors of the Bangor Mall in Bangor, Penobscot County, Maine, on November 2 declared the building condemned, stating: 'This structure has been deemed unfit for human habitation or use.' City spokesperson David Warren confirmed that code enforcement was at the site on Monday but declined to share more details. One wing of the mall had previously been condemned in January.
The mall owner, Namdar Realty Group, owes more than $2 million to the city and an insurance company after multiple lawsuits, and a potential sale appears poised to fall through after one of the main financiers pulled out. A Namdar spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The same day, courts in Bangor, Portland and Augusta announced they will stay open late on Election Day, November 3, in anticipation of emergency filings related to the election.
